Motown Underground Mix #1
November 29, 2008 09:14 PM PST
Over the past couple of years I've taken time out and just for kicks, remixed some of my favorite Motown classics. They're all unreleased and unauthorized (though one day soon, that might change). I usually drop them in my club sets to get the crowd movin' (every DJ needs their secret weapons, right? I get many, many request for copies, but I've been hesitant to pass them around since I really don't want them booted up and on the market without my knowledge (this happened already with one remix so, I learned that lesson the hard way..no more AIM swaps!). But I really wanted to share them outside of the club with listeners and true fans of the music and I figure this podcast might be the perfect vehicle... So here, for the first time online (for a limited time only) are several of those remixes (track list below). Look out for another Motown mix coming soon(ish). Motown Underground mix#1 1. Podcast SummaryMixing the best of club classics (funk, soul jazz and boogie) with current styles (deep, dub, tech and electro),
About DJMusic has been my passion, hobby and career path since I could figure out how to get near a sound system and turn it up. My first paid gig was spinning disco at Vinnie's Lounge in Brooklyn (1979) and my first record was released in 1989 on Nu Groove Records (as Transphonic). Since then, I've been invited to spin in over 15 countries at over 1000 bars, lounges, nightclubs, festivals and concerts, and to remix, produce or collaborate on over 100 releases. I've met and worked with some of my musical heroes (Roy Ayers, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Bobby Mcferrin, DJ's Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay, Danny Krivit, Paul Simpson to name a few). Against all common sense, I've co-founded several labels over the years (Eightball Records, New Breed Records, Midnite Recordings and currently operating Mobile Global Digital, my personal 'vanity label'. This podcast is a window for curious music lovers to peek into my collection of classics, current and upcoming releases including out of print rarities, long forgotten or overlooked gems along with recent productions by myself and others and some never to be released (officially) reedits and rerubs. Anything else you need to know, hit me up. I just might respond. Enjoy. Fans of this Show
